What you get

Live prices, no broker needed

Quotes, charts and option chains come from the live NSE feed the moment you sign in — there is nothing to connect. Prefer your own connection? Add a read-only Upstox Analytics token, which cannot place orders, and yours is used instead.

Orders that behave like orders

Market, limit, stop-loss and target orders, held on the server so a stop still works when your laptop is shut. Intraday and delivery, with intraday squared off automatically at 15:20.

Options, with the maths shown

Full option chains with strikes, premiums and correct lot sizes, priced with Black-Scholes so you can see how a premium responds rather than guessing.

Signals measured, not recited

Each pattern is scored against what actually happened afterwards on that stock's own history, and shown next to the base rate. A bullish signal winning 54% in a stock that rose 55% of the time is reported as the nothing it is.

Replay past sessions

Step through a previous day bar by bar and make the decisions again without knowing what came next. The cheapest screen time there is.

The whole pivot ladder, R5 to S5

Eleven levels, not the usual four — the chart draws exactly the ones the screener computes. A stock is placed on the highest level it has actually cleared, not the line that happens to be nearest, so a name that has run past R2 is not still being described by R1.

Chart patterns, drawn on your candles

Base breakout, double top and bottom, head & shoulders and its inverse, bull and bear flags, cup & handle and its inverse — drawn on screen and scored against that stock's own history. Geometry is accepted only for the exact candles you are looking at, and replay hides them so future bars cannot leak into practice.

Screeners

Find what is actually moving

A list of today's top gainers tells you what already happened. These are built to show you where the activity is while it is still going on, and which levels it is happening at.

Post-open F&O movers

Every F&O underlying that has moved more than ±1.25% since the open, ranked and updating through the session. The opening range is where the day's character gets set, and this is what is breaking out of it.

Pre-open screener

Between 09:00 and 09:15, while the pre-open auction is still running, see where each stock is being matched and what the indicative open looks like before the bell. The clearest fifteen minutes of the day for spotting a gap.

Reads NSE's own pre-open feed directly. NSE blocks most datacenter addresses, so this panel is on the phone, the website and the desktop app — but it only fills when the machine serving it can actually reach NSE.

Level breaks as they print

While the pre-open shortlist is on screen, each name carries where it opened against the ladder, and a BROKE UP or BROKE DOWN tag naming the level and the moment that tick arrived. "P ABOVE" beside "BROKE DOWN R1 09:21:14" is a stock that opened above the pivot, reached R1, and lost it again.

Descriptive on purpose. It says a line was crossed and when — never buy, sell, or a strike to take.

Opening level events, 09:15–09:30

Closed one-minute candles that finished on the other side of a pivot from where they opened, split into levels reclaimed and levels lost, with volume shown against the average of the 20 bars before it. A separate table tracks which of them the very next candle held.

A candle whose instrument reports no volume is marked not measured rather than thin, and anything still waiting on the next candle is pending, not failed.

High volume by RVOL

Not raw volume — a stock that always trades heavily is not news. This ranks by relative volume: today's cumulative volume against that same stock's own median at the same minute of the session. A quiet mid-cap doing four times its usual 10:15 volume outranks a giant doing its normal amount.

When a stock has too little history to say what normal looks like, the scanner reports nothing rather than printing 1.0 and letting you read it as "average". Indices carry no volume at all, so they are excluded rather than shown as zero. A screener is a place to look, not a reason to buy.

Read this first. This is a simulator using virtual money, for education only. A profit here is hypothetical and does not mean the same trade would have profited in the real market — execution, slippage, liquidity, brokerage, taxes and your own emotions all differ. Nothing here is financial advice or a recommendation to buy or sell. PaperTrade is not a broker and places no real orders.

What it actually is

PaperTrade is a paper trading simulator for the Indian stock market. You practise NSE stock and options trading with ₹1,00,00,000 of virtual money against live market prices — the same instruments, order types and expiries a real broker gives you, with no real orders placed and no real money at risk. Options paper trading works the same way: build a position from the live option chain, watch the premium decay into expiry, and close it without paying for the lesson. It runs in a browser, and as installed Windows and Android apps.

A place to practise before real capital is at risk

Most people learn options by losing money on them. PaperTrade gives you the same instruments, the same live prices and the same order types, with none of the consequences. Put on a position, size it wrong, watch what happens, and do it again on Monday.

Honest about what it knows

Every price carries a LIVE or SIMULATED badge, and the app refuses to show a number it cannot stand behind rather than filling the gap with something plausible. If a statistic has too small a sample to mean anything, it says so instead of printing a confident percentage.

Reasonable questions

Is my money at risk?

No. There is no real money in PaperTrade and it places no real orders. It cannot reach your funds or your holdings. The broker token it uses is read-only and Upstox will refuse an order placed with it.

Do I need a broker account?

No. Live prices are included, served through PaperTrade's own market data connection, so you can practise against the real market from the moment you sign in.

You can still connect your own Upstox account if you would rather — it is your own connection, it is not shared with anyone else, and it keeps working independently of ours. The token is read-only, encrypted before it is stored, and never shown back to you.

Will practising here make me profitable?

It will not, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. What a simulator can do is let you learn the mechanics — order types, position sizing, how a premium decays into expiry — without paying tuition to the market. Real trading adds slippage, partial fills, brokerage, taxes and the fact that it is your own money, and none of those are small.

What data do you keep about me?

Your email, a hashed password, your virtual portfolio, and — when you activate a licence — which machine it was activated on and which version of the terms you accepted. Your broker token is encrypted. You can ask for your data to be erased once your licence has ended; details are in the Terms of Use.

Is the data delayed?

Prices come from your own broker feed and are best-effort. They can be delayed, wrong or simulated — which is why every one of them carries a badge telling you which it is. Lot sizes are approximations, not exchange-official values.

Start with virtual money.

Keep the real kind until you know what you are doing with it.
